On July 2nd 2010, at Metropole Phuket Hotel, Niwit Aroonrat, a Vice Governor of Phuket, presided over the 3rd seminar on the survey and design project of the tunnel construction at Tesco-Lotus and Thainan intersections. The seminar was held by the Department of Highways, Thai Engineering Consultants Co. Ltd, and T.E.C. International Co. Ltd.
As there are bad traffic jams at Lotus and Thainan intersections, the Department of Highways did a survey to find out the appropriate solutions to the problem in the two mentioned points. It was concluded that the appropriate solution for the Tesco Lotus intersection was a tunnel to be constructed on road no.402 and a flyover bridge constructed on Yaowaraj Road crossing the tunnel. Meanwhile at Thainan intersection, there should be a tunnel on road no.402 only (not flyover). The project would cost 1500 million baht in budget. However, there was no fixed period when the budget would be approved. The government had to compare the project with other projects around the country and decide which project needed the budget more urgently.
