At around 9am this morning, 27th November 2013, around 1,000 anti-government protestors took over Phuket Provincial Hall and also forced the nearby Phuket Provincial Administration offices to close.

The takeover came after Bangkok protest leader, Suthep Thaugsuban, last night called on government opponents to occupy all government related offices in all provinces.

A number of other southern provinces have also adhered to Khun Suthep’s requests with Provincial Halls in Surat Thani, Sonkhla, Trang and Pattani all seeing closure due to protestors either taking over the offices or protesting peacefully outside.

Phuket tourists are advised that it is still possible to travel around the island and that the protests remain peaceful and will have no effect on their vacation.
