Pol. Col. Chalit Kaewyarat, the Deputy Commander of Phuket Provincial Police, presided over the releasing ceremony of 200 police officers working to prevent and reduce traffic accidents during the 2011 New Year holidays.
During 2008-2010 New Year holidays, there were traffic accidents happening 10.3 times a day. In average, there was 1 person dying from traffic accidents during the holidays everyday. In this coming New Year holidays from 29 December 2010 to 4 January 2011, the police plan to help reduce traffic accidents to be no more than 73 times. People injured should not be over 78 and deaths should not be over 6.
The police would set up centers to work on this at Phuket Provincial Police Station from December 27th 2010 onwards. They would work on accident decreases following 6 main measures including management, law enforcement, traffic control, road construction, public relations, emergency medical services, and life saving. Moreover, the police had rehearsed how to deal with traffic accidents in order to reduce losses from accidents.
