On December 8th, at Wachira Phuket Hospital, Dr. Jessada Jongpaiboonwattana, the Director of the hospital, presided over the opening of the monk’s mobile health screening booth to celebrate H.M. the King 84th birthday anniversary on December 5th 2011.
Suthida Chuadamrongkul, a Deputy Director of the hospital, said that previously the monks had to be checked up and cured in the same area and same process with other people. This was not appropriate for the monks, so the hospital provided this special health screening booth for them. The hospital also promotes integrating health programs in disease prevention, cure, and health recovery for both people and monks in Phuket.
The monk health screening project had been launched in the 1st phase during September – October 2010 in 39 temples around Phuket: 545 monks got health checks. 160 of them had abnormal fat levels, 28 of them had abnormal sugar levels, and 6 of them had problems in their kidneys. The second phase of the project is run in December; the health screening booth would provide various medical checks including stomach ultrasound checks, eye checks, and dental checks in over 40 year old monks. The third phase would be in January 2011. It provided mobile medical checks for young monks and monks over 40 years old. Suthida said that this was the first time that the hospital provided full medical checks for monks in Phuket.
