Phuket Police encourage bikers and their passengers to all wear helmets from July 1st 2010

Pol. Col. Wanchai Akeporapit, the Commander of Phuket Provincial Police Station, said that the law forcing bikers and their passengers in Phuket City to all wear helmets was due to be enforced from  July 1st 2010.

On that day, there was due to be a campaign around Phuket City municipal areas to encourage people to wear helmets. 1,600 motorbike drivers and their passengers wearing helmets would ride around Phuket town to encourage Phuket residents to wear helmets either while they were driving a motorbike or sitting behind the drivers.

Pol. Col. Wanchai added that people who go against this law would be arrested and educated in traffic laws and the effects of riding without a helmet.
