On August 30th 2010, the Office of Commercial Affairs Phuket (OCAP), started selling good-quality cheap LongKong (or langsat) fruit from the three deep south provinces, Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwas, of Thailand to Phuket residents. There were lots of people flocking to buy the fruit.
Praman Urawan, a staff-member of OCAP, said that this LongKong sale aims to help release the fruits from the three provinces. Each day Phuket gets 2.5 tons of LongKong to be sold on the island. There were three grades of LongKong including A, B, and C. Each grade was sold at different prices of 31 baht/ Kg., 26 baht/Kg. and 18 baht/Kg. respectively.
The fruit is being sold on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during August 30th – September 10th 2010 from 8am onwards. After the first day, grade A Long Kong was not enough due to the high demand of customers, so OCAP had to order more fruit.
