Tri Akaradecha, the Governor of Phuket, said that Phuket Police had checked some nightclubs for illegal activities in Muang or City District, Phuket on January 8th-9th 2011. This action was done following the Ministry of Interior’s policy to get rid of illegal activities. Phuket was chosen to be a role model for the south in this mission. On the mentioned day there were 12 nightclubs found running illegally e.g. running without license, closing late, or without alcohol trade licenses. They would be prosecuted in due course.

He said that there would be checking like this more frequently in the future since there were complaints that the some nightclubs open until 5-6 a.m., and there were some fighting in some nightclubs. Moreover, drugs, weapons and sex shows had to be seriously suppressed.
