On March 28th, Mr.Xu Mingling, the Chinese Consul currently based in Songkhla, met Phuket governor, Mr.Augkaradacha, at Phuket Provincial Hall, in order to discuss the building of a new consulate in Phuket.
China has had a consulate in Songkhla for about two decades,but due to the growing number of tourists visiting Phuket, it has been proposed that a new consulate should be built here.
Mr.Xu Mingling said the new consulate can be built in Phuket if there is a suitable five rai area of land available. There are already 500,000 Chinese tourists visiting Phuket each year and there will be more after the consulate is built, He also suggested adding Chinese language to signage.
Phuket governor, Mr.Tri Augkaradacha, agreed to the need for a new Chinese consulate being built in Phuket. However, as far as adding Chinese to signage, a meeting will be held to discuss it.
