On December 15th at the meeting room of ‘Kaneng at Pier’ restaurant, Weerawat Chanpen, a Vice Governor of Phuket, presided over a meeting of a committee responsible for Chalong Pier Yacht Control and Yacht Checking System. There were representatives from related government offices and private sectors attending the meeting.
The main agenda of the meeting was an establishment of a committee to administer the pier control center and to cooperate in marine safety. Moreover, the meeting discussed about a practicable location to be the new Phuket Pier Control Center (PPCC) where there would be a checkpoint checking yachts coming in and out the pier. The meeting also talked about the administrating framework for PPCC and marine traffic control in cruise ships and sport/speed boats travelling to and out Phuket.
Each month, PPCC has to report the result to the administrating committee. The first test assessment of the new PPCC will be in February 2011. This allows the related sectors to see if there is anything needed to be improved. As a check point, PPCC staff will check the documents and belongings strictly to find out if there are any illegal items in each yacht or ship. It would also help facilitating tourists coming to Phuket by boat. It is estimated that the PPCC would be completed in 2011.
