On November 9th, Daniel Pruce, the acting & Deputy British Ambassador to Thailand, paid a call on the Governor of Phuket Tri Akkaradecha at his office.
Mr Pruce said that his visit was to boost the relationship between the two organizations and to liaise with Phuket in providing assistance to British citizens when they have problems during their stay in Phuket. He said that he had been in Phuket three times. He really liked the island. He stated that over 800,000 British visitors coming to the Thailand each year. Moreover 50,000 British people stayed a long time in the country. After talking with the governor, he was confident that Phuket province would take good care of British people visiting or staying on the island.
Mr Tri said that Phuket as a tourist city brings more billions of baht into the country each year through more than 5 million tourists per year, so the policy of taking care of tourists better is important. They also have already as many as 21 countries’ Honorary Consuls meeting regularly every 3 months. The channel of communication and exchanges will use the information from meetings to improve services.
