Phuket prepares for 2013 Loy Kratong celebrationsOn October 28th 2013 at the PPAO Council meeting room, PPAO Council Chairman – Mr. Pradit Sangjan chaired a meeting regarding preparations for the coming 2013 Loy Kratong Festival. Participating in the meeting were PPAO Vice Chief Administration Officer – Mr. Watcharin Patomwattanaphong, Vice PPAO Council Chairman – Mr. Sakchai Chaowai, Secretary of PPAO Council – Mr. Kraiwut Khumban, PPAO Council Members, PPAO departmental heads and officers, along with other relevant sectors.

Mr. Pradit informed the meeting that in an attempt to promote Phuket’s culture and tourism, PPAO has schedule the main Loy Kratong celebrations to take place on November 16 & 17 2013, at Chalong Pier in Ao Chalong.

According to Mr. Pradit, the festival will showcase local culture and provide tourists, the public and young people an opportunity to experience an authentic Thai experience. Attendees at the meeting will form a network of operational units consisting of operations, logistics, location set up, activities set up, welcoming committee, management, public relations, safety, first aid and medical care, registration of Young Miss and Miss Nopamas, long tail boat contests, follow up and assessment.

Phuket prepares for 2013 Loy Kratong celebrationsActivities on November 16t6h will feature entertainment by students from five PPAO schools, a Young Miss Nopamas contest, performance by the band Superdance and an appearance by Thai movie star Mangpo Cholthicha. Whilst on November 17th the day will start with dried food alms offerings to monks at Chalong Pier, seven long tail boat contests. During the night there will be the main Miss Nopamas contest and performances by the bands Superdance and Modern Dog.

Requirement for entering the Young Miss Nopamas contest are as follows:
• Participants must be aged between 4-7 years old
• Photocopy of birth certificate certified by parents

And for the Miss Nopamas contents the following rules apply:
• Participants must be single and aged between 15-25
• Thai nationality
• Documents required at the time of registration are: Completed registration form, one 2” photograph, photocopy of house registration (certified by house’s owner), photocopy of birth certificate, photocopy of ID card

Winning awards for Young Miss Nopamas include trophy, sash and 10,000 baht prize money for first place; trophy, sash and 7,000 baht for first runner-up; trophy, sash and 5,000 baht for second runner-up. For the People’s Favorite prize are trophy, sash and 5,000 baht. All other non-winning entrants will be given assistance money of 1,500 each.

For Miss Nopamas, the first prize is trophy, sash and 15,000 baht, and a trophy, sash and 12,000 baht for first runner-up; trophy, sash and 9,000 baht for second runner-up. For the People’s Favorite prize are trophy, sash and 6,000 baht. All other non-winning entrants will be given assistance money of 2,000 each.
