‘148 prisoners’ were released in Phuket

On May 21st 2010, at Phuket Provincial Prison, Smith Palawatwichai, a Vice Governor of Phuket, presided over the Phuket prisoners’ release & pardoning ceremony. Those present included Paisan Suwanraksa, the Commander of Phuket Provincial Prison, and other related government officers.

Paisan said that on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the coronation of H.M. the King Bhumipol, the King had announced that some prisoners nationwide should be released and let them work to benefit the nation.

For Phuket Prison, there were 490 prisoners considered for release. On the day only 138 male prisoners and 10 female prisoners were actually released. The rest of them have to wait until they complete the duration of their reduced imprisonment.

The prison commander said that the released prisoners would be trained by the Labor Development Office Phuket and later followed up and assessed at their homes.
