On October 3rd 2012 Mr.Samak Leaurduanghad – Director of Phuket Highways Department revealed that on the 27th September he surveyed the collapsed Baramee Road, the main route from Patong into Phuket Town.
He said “Subsidence has been caused by continuous heavy rains. It is a serious problem, especially during the night, and often has an impact on traffic. As a quick fix, we will underpin the damaged section of road with wire netting filled with rocks. This work is already being carried out and it is expected to be finished in around two weeks. This temporary measure has used emergency budget of about 300,000THB.”
He add “I have now requested that the relevant agency officers check out along the road to see if there is a more severe problem and if it is found there is, they should implement measure to resolve the problem as soon as possible. As for a long term solution to the damaged section, permanent repairs will be carried out and it is believed they will cost 20m baht. Tenders for the work will be called on 1st November.”
“If people know of any bad or unusable roads, unlit street lights, traffic light outages or more, please kindly report them directly to the highways department by calling 076-212179.”
