On 2nd May 2013 at Phuket Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Phuket Vice Governor – Jamroen Thippayaphonthada announced that Phuket will be holding a three-day tsunami and earthquake training exercise at the junction between Tambol Maikhao, Phuket and Tambol Kok-Kloi, Phang-Nga close to Sarasin Bridge. The training exercise will be held from 27th – 29th May 2013, with the first two-days being theory training and last day being a practical exercise.
On the day of the practical exercise, at 8.30am the Meteorological Department will report that an earthquake has occurred at Sumatra Island – Indonesia, the tsunami warning will alert local departments to prepare to evacuate people in risk areas to safety zones and to send news to all media to get the information spread to the people. The migration plan set out to help people in tsunami risk areas and to assist victims in the sea will then be followed. However, the main exercise will focus on communication and command, in order to provide knowledge to government officers, foundation workers and volunteers who may be needed to assist victim quickly and efficiently.
