On 29th January 2013 at Phuket City Hall, Phuket Vice Governor – Mr.Jamroen Thippayaphonthada acted as chairman of the Board of Directors at a meeting regarding the restoration of the Phuket City Pillar. Director of Phuket Culture – Mr.Tawichat Inthonrit, Phuket Sergeant – Mr.Buri Thammarak and relevant agencies were also in attendance.
The meeting was held to prepare plans about the restoration of Phuket’s City Pillar Shrine, which it has been estimated will cost in the region of 15MTHB. Once the plans are complete they will be presented to the Phuket Office of Public Works and Town Planning, Office of Arts section 15 and the Phuket Office of Art & Culture for approval.
Mr.Jamroen said “Today Phuket’s City Pillar Shrine, located in the Thalang district, is not in pristine condition and does not look elegant. Phuket Province has therefore proposed a project to restore the Shrine and to make it look as beautiful as it was originally. The shrine should be something which should be held in the minds of Phuket people and they should be entitled to idol and worship it. It is also a great way to promote Phuket’s tourism industry.”
