On 23rd October 2012 at Phuket Town Hall, Governor of Phuket – Mr.Maitree Intusut laid a wreath dedicated to Chulalongkorn Day at the King Rama V Monument. Mr Maitree was joined by Dr.Sommai Prechasilp, Mr.Somkiet Sangkhaosutthirak, Mr.Jamroen Thippayapongthada – Deputy Governor of Phuket, Mr.Chaiwat Thepea – Phuket Permanent Secretary, judicial officials, military, police, prosecutors, government administrators, local people, as well as merchants, residents and students.
King Rama V was the monarch who steered Thailand clear of colonization and initiated the Chakri Reformation to put Thailand on the road to modernization. As part of his modernization program, King Rama V implemented several changes to many areas of the government; civil service, finance, foreign affairs, military, education & infrastructure.
After the ceremony, Mr.Maitree presented 5 students ‘Chulalongkorn Day’ scholarships from the Alumni Association of Chulalongkorn University, Phuket.
