Somjai Suwansupana, the Mayor of Phuket City Municipality (PCM), said that the Local Registration Office of PCM is suffering a shortage of the ID smart cards while the demand of smart cards requested by residents is high in Phuket City municipal areas.
Therefore PCM issued substitute yellow and pink cards for people to hold while they were waiting for the ID smart cards. The yellow substitute cards will be issued for people who requested ID cards for the first time. It shows a photo and personal details of the card holder and is effective for 120 days. The pink substitute card will be issued for people whose ID card is damaged or lost.
In addition, Thai citizens have to request ID cards within 60 days after their 15th birthday. The delayed request causes a 500 baht fine. The documents required for ID card requests are house registration, birth certificate or other identifying documents issued by government offices. Foreign labourers/workers or residents or children must show an ‘Alien’ or foreign certificate of identification of their parents to request ID cards. People whose ID card is damaged or lost must ask for the new card within 60 days otherwise they will be fined 200 baht. The same documents are required to issue the new ID card.
