Phuket Airport holds car bomb exercise

Phuket Airport holds car bomb exercise

On 27th August 2012, at Phuket International Airport, AOT conducted an emergency exercise for its 2012 emergency plan named PEMEX 2012. This exercise used a car bomb simulation, in the airport’s car parking area, close to the airport’s main building. The exercise was organised by Deputy Director of the Phuket International Airport, Mr.Suthep Sansiripan, and saw the participation of Phuket International Airport’s staff and relevant units.

Mr.Suthep said “This exercise, a car bomb situation, has seen the involvement of all relevant units. The objective of the exercise is to improve the joint performance of the relevant units when in an emergency situation, and also to ensure the airport meets the required standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization. As we are a State Party, we have to provide a contingency plan to ensure we are prepared should there be an actual event. Full training should be held once every two years, and alternating exercises once a year.
