People don’t often associate Patong with social responsibility efforts, but this weekend Centra Ashlee, Patong, proved that Patong cares too.
On Saturday the Centra Ashlee played host to a fun day out, for 15 children from the after school program, Coconut Club, at Kalim School. The day involved swimming in the hotel pool, balloons, games, Gangnam style dance competition and a delicious meal. The children who attended were chosen in recognition of their achievements in English classes.
“Phuket Has Been Good To Us started at Kalim school,” says Angela McNoe, Coconut Club Coordinator for Phuket Has Been Good to Us Foundation, “We are very happy to expand our swimming and weekend programme to include our students here.”
Phuket Has Been Good To Us Foundation is a Thai registered charity, which aims to foster vocational opportunities for Thai children through English. English is taught to over 860 children in two government schools in Phuket, including 130 residential children who live at the Kamala school. The goal is to provide the best possible English language education by placing qualified, fluent English speaking teachers in classrooms. The programs help Thai youth become capable and confident English speakers so that they can secure well-paid employment. They are currently seeking helpers and swimming opportunities for the Kalim School.
