Wounded Pang Pid-pee is safe with Phuket Provincial Livestock Office

29 September2009 – Vet.Jirayu Niranviroj reported elephant situation in Phuket that we didn’t face with elephant problem as in Bangkok; real elephant walking along the road side.

There are 177 elephants in Phuket, mainly in elephant camps, zoo, and some performance venues. Phuket Provincial to limit policy of import elephant meanwhile business sections gives full cooperation to government efforts, then the province can control elephant situation.

There are about 20 elephant camps in Phuket. Some of small camps are closed due to financial crisis situation & low amount of tourists.

About five years old wounded elephant, Pang Pid-pee, is now under the responsibility of Phuket Provincial Livestock Office. Pang Pid-pee has ulcer on its front left leg after it was hooked by mahout.
