On June 9th 2010, in the area of a mangrove forest, Nam Bor Bay, Wichit sub- district, Phuket, Vice Admiral Choomnoom Arjwong, the commander of the 3rd Naval Area and Kreetha Saetan, the Mayor of Wichit Municipality, together presided over a mangrove forest project under the royal projects scheme. There were a lot of Wichit Municipality staff and local residents joining the project.
Kreetha commented that mangrove forests were vital areas in the marine ecology, yet had been encroached upon by humans. The declining mangrove forests directly affected humans since they caused decreasing numbers of marine life.
Consequently, the mangrove forest project was held to praise HM the King who encourages Thai people to realize how important the forests are and to maintain the ecological balance of the mangroves which are the homes of newborn marine life and the natural protection preventing heavy waves and storms washing out coastal areas.
There were 25,400 mangrove trees planted on the day. The project was well supported by Wichit Municipality, the 3rd Naval Area, and other private and government organizations.
