Phuket to replant sugar palm trees in Promthep Cape on September 18th 2010

Promthep Cape

phuketWichai Praisa-ngob, the Governor of Phuket, said that the provincial government together with Rawai Municipality would replant more sugar palm trees at Promthep Cape in September 18th.

This project was established following the 78 million trees being planted to honor the Queen on the occasion of her 78th birthday anniversary. Moreover, it would maintain the sugar palm trees as the important symbol of Promthep Cape, the world renowned landmark of Phuket. Many previous trees had died due to old age and disease.

On September 18th, government officers and nearby residents would help to plant the sugar palm trees in the Promthep Cape area. There would be 40 one – meter sugar palm trees and 400 sugar palms seeds planted on the day. Aroon Soros, the Mayor of Rawai Municipality, said that the municipality uses 400,000 baht of budget in the project.  He believed that the project would increase the numbers of sugar palm trees at the cape and make the cape like the pictures we’ve seen in the past.
