San Chantarawong, Head of the Office Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Phuket, said that Phuket was affected by the southwest monsoon in Andaman Sea and the southwest region of Thailand. The monsoon caused 1-2 meters of waves in the sea. This directly affected small fishing boats & yachts in the region. Therefore those boats should NOT have been in the sea during that time. Moreover, people on shore also need to beware of sudden floods that could still happen at anytime.
Recently, there was heavy rain & wind on the island. Trees in several parts of the island fell down. In PaKlok, an 11 year old child died after he was crushed by a huge tamarind tree that was blown down. Meanwhile, a house in Kathu was destroyed by a falling hundred year old jackfruit tree. There were similar kinds of incidents in other parts of the island; therefore, the Phuket government had assigned related government staff to help people who were affected by the monsoon.
