Phuket still has enough water for dry seasonOn 13th February 2013 at Phuket Provincial Irrigation Office, Governor of Phuket chaired a meeting to update the island regarding its water situation.

Mr.Pisak Chollayuth of the Regional Tap Water Office in Phuket stated “We still have enough tap water to cover throughout this dry season; the amount of water we have to supply public services and hotels is adequate. We have sufficient amounts held in our reservoirs: 7.2 million cubic meters in Bangneawdum T.Srisoonthron, 7.3 million cubic meters in Bangwad, and also 34 million cubic meters in smaller reservoirs. In addition to this water, we also have system which allows us to pipe water from Koktanod at T.Cherngtalay to Bang-Jo. This system has cost us 99 million Baht.

Mr.Ruetai Patcharanurak Phuket Irrigation Project Director added: “We have a development plan prepared for next year. However, with regards to immediate plans, we are constructing a reservoir in Klong Katha at T.Chalong which will hold 4.30 million cubic meters of water and this will be complete by June 2014. From 2014 – 2017 we already have a project which will see an increase in the capacity at Bangwad from 7.30 million cubic meters to 10.60 million cubic meters, and there are also construction projects for pumping stations at Bangneawdum and improvement plans at Koktanod.”
