Dr Wannarat Channukul, the Energy Minister, presided over the Energy Saving MOU signing between Phuket Governor, Wichai Praisa-ngob and the representatives from the Ministry of Energy, in the event “Phuket Free from Plastic Bag” held at Central Festival Phuket.
The main points of the MOU are 1. Promote the alternative energy, especially, the energy that is not generated by burning, such as solar cells, wind, and heat from air-conditioners in hotels and other tourist spots; in order to reduce CO2 from burning which mainly causes the greenhouse effect. 2. Use fresh garbage from residence to manufacture biogas using in residences instead of LPG. 3. Promote people to use CNG 0r NGV to reduce benzene and diesel oil usage in Phuket. 4. Set up the representatives from 2 parties to help the practical movement following this MOU.
For “Phuket Free from Plastic Bag” project, Wichai hoped that it will help to reduce plastic trash in Phuket which is 550 ton per day. After the project has been promoted, there’re some shops attending the project still use plastic bags.
