On 9th January 2013 Mr.Preecha Rengsomboon – Minister of Natural Resources and Environment presided over the opening of Phuket’s Solid Waste Incinerator No.2. Mrs.Thanyarat Audchariyacha – Member of the Senate, Mr.Rawat Arerob – MP Phuket, Mr.Maitree Inthusut – Governor of Phuket, Mr.Jathuporn Buruspat – General of the Department of Environmental Quality, Phuket’s Chief Executive, Phuket Municipal Administrators, Corporate Executives, Local Government Officials and the Heads of relevant Government Agencies were all also in attendance at the ceremony.
The new community waste power plant, which will be able to provide no less than 5 MW of electricity, will solve a lot of Phuket’s problems such as bad odors and large amounts of flies, both of which also have a serious impact on the environmental. These problems also cause have an impact on the local community and schools in the nearby vicinity.
Although the plant was completed on 20 March 2012, testing had to be carried out and after these were announced a success it was decided the grand opening would take place on 9th January 2013.
