Phuket keeps eyes open for tsunamis after the watch alert cancelled

The Andaman Sea tsunami watch alert was cancelled by National Disaster Warning Center in Bangkok at 7.20am this morning after they found no risk of a tsunami except a number of small waves following a magnitude 7.8 quake that hit Indonesia early Wednesday morning at 5.15am.

Phuket Governor Wichai Praisangob said, after he observed the Patong area to follow up the situation, that he was very satisfied finding people were very alert to the possible tsunami. This is a good sign for loss prevention if a tsunami really happens.

Though the tsunami watch alert has been canceled, Phuket Governor Wichai said Phuket is still closely monitoring the aftermath of the magnitude-7.8 earthquake in Indonesia. A ‘war-room’ or command center is to be set up at the Provincial Hall for any immediate actions that may be needed.
