On 13th August 2013 at Chalong Pier in Amphur Muang Phuket, Phuket Governor – Maitree Intusut presided over the start of the 2nd GO-ECO Phuket event. Also in attendance at the event were Phuket Vice Governor – Sommai Preechasil, Director of TAT Phuket – Chanchai Duangjit together with staff from Department of Marine and Coastal Resources Area 5, Third Naval Area Command, Phuket Submarine Entrepreneurs, Local Students and Thai and Foreign Tourists.
For the 2nd GO-ECO Phuket event both the public and private sectors worked together to maintain the natural resources of the area of Phuket, activities included a large diving activity which saw a large number of divers join forces to remove garbage from the sea and the beaches at Coral and Racha Islands.
Phuket MP – Raewat Areerob said “It is so important that we hold this activity which sees such a large amount of garbage removed from the sea, which is seen as the heart of this great tourism city. Problems such as this affects our marine tourism business, furthermore, it destructs our vital natural resources. It is now an urgent problem that should be shown, social awareness should be increased and it really has to change very soon.”
