heavy rain

San Chantawong, Head of the Office of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, said on 12th October that it had been raining heavily in Phuket for two days, therefore the Southern Meteorological Center (West Coast) and the Meteorological Department warned people in the risky areas of steep foothills and low land near river or canal banks to be on watch for any sudden floods especially until October 16, according to the latest warning from the Weather Forecast Bureau, of the Meteorological Department issued today, 13 October. ( see http://www.tmd.go.th/en/list_warning.php )

The heavy rain in Phuket was caused by the monsoon that moved through the southern region of Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand due to the low pressure area in South China Sea. This made heavy rain in Ranong, Phang Nga, and Phuket. The fishermen and sailors should be cautious because the waves would be 2-3 meters high. Also the latest warning from the Weather Forecast Bureau, of the Meteorological Department said “All ships should proceed with caution and small boats should keep ashore during this period.”

In Phuket, the related sectors were watching out for sudden floods and land slides in many risky points as well as watching out for high sea levels on the coast of the island. The rescuers were ready to assist people in case of any emergency.
