On September 21st, Teerayuth Aiumtrakul, a Vice Governor of Phuket, presided over a meeting to control and follow up problems due to pollution from factories in Phuket. This is performed under the 2nd committee meeting in 2010 for Factory Pollution Prevention. On this occasion, the vice governor, community leaders, representatives from factories in Phuket and related government officers visited Thai Ocean Ventures factory processing frozen tuna, in order to listen to processors’ opinions, production standards and pollution management of the factory.
Teerayuth said that environmental management of factories was important. Phuket depended on tourism so every section, including government offices, local administrative organizations, community leaders, the factories themselves, and the educators, needed to help encourage factories, entrepreneurs, local residents, and especially students, to care more about the environment.
In addition, in 2011, Phuket Industrial Office will get 200,000 baht of budget to run training programs for residents and government officers in environmental care, surveillance and pollution prevention. The Industrial Office would also train the factories’ staff in Phuket to develop their businesses in sustainable and natural friendly ways.
