(17 April 2012) The Seismology Department of Thailand has confirmed that a reported 4.3 magnitude earthquake hit Phuket, Thailand at 4.44PM on April 16th. The earthquake’s epicenter was located in tambon Sri Soonthorn.
Residents and tourists from around the island reported feeling the ground shake, causing people to evacuate to higher ground. The earthquake has caused cracks in more than 10 houses in Baan Bang Kham.
The Meteorological Department said the earthquake did not affect Thailand as it was only a local one. Many smaller aftershocks with magnitudes of around 2.0 on the Richter scale had been continuously reported. However, no severe damage or injury has been reported.
