On Thursday 16th December 2010 the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources held its annual “Beach Clean Up” along Patong beach Phuket. This year also included the underwater clean up competition which was organized by Thai Diver Association. The underwater clean up is organised to collect fishing nets thrown overboard by fishermen as well as empty bottles of beer and other alcohol that tourists have thrown into the sea.
The event was opened at 9a.m on Thursday morning by Phuket Governor Tri Augkaradacha, and with a performance from Sai-Num-Yen municipal school. There were many activities held throughout the day, including stage performances, music beach games and ended with a long tail boat race.
It was great to see so many people and resorts coming together to help make Patong beach a cleaner environment.
