Artificial coral projects considered in Phuket

On April 2nd, 2010, at the meeting room of Phuket Provincial Hall, Piraboon Tongsiriset, Head of Phuket Provincial Office, chaired a meeting of a provincial committee to consider coastal construction projects. The meeting comprised officials from related agencies.

The meeting consider about the construction of a retaining wall sized 12 x 61.90 meters at the area of Koh Sirey in Rassada sub-district, the request of Phuket Marine and Coastal Conservation Center to sink 2 old boats as artificial corals in the area of Racha Island, and the request for artificial concrete coral constructions in Bang Tao Bay. After discussion, the committee approved all three projects.

Piraboon said after the meeting that the board must be strict in granting permission to the projects to make sure that they do not affect nature and locals’ way of life.
