On June 2nd 2010, at Phuket Merlin Hotel, Paiboon Upattising, the President of Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization or PPAO, presided over a workshop called ‘Phuket Tourism Promotion’. Those present in the seminar included Somboon Jirayus – the President of Phuket Tourism Association (PTA), Suchart Hirankanokkul – the President of Southern Thai Hotel Association and tourism business entrepreneurs in Phuket. Paiboon said that the workshop was held to promote and support tourism business entrepreneurs in Phuket to get more income and to develop income ideas for PPAO as well.
In addition, the President of PTA added that they got good feedback from a road show in China, Korea and Japan, so as a result there were increasing tourists from those countries booking direct flights to Phuket; there were about 20 direct flights a week from Korea especially, landing at Phuket International Airport, bringing in 12000 tourists per month. Thai Airways is prepared to launch new direct flights from seven countries i.e. Japan, China, India, Australia, France, Germany, and Korea to Phuket. It’s hoped that this would make tourism in Phuket bustling again.
