Tourism leader asks Thai Airways to review its domestic ticket prices

After the Thai Airways’ Board announced on April 1st, 2010 that the airline would increase fares by 8-13 baht per kilometer for the domestic ticket prices or 50 – 60% up from the old prices, to reduce its costs, Tossaporn Tephabutr, the Deputy Chairman of House Committee on Tourism and Sports in the House of Representatives, asked Thai Airways to review the price increases since the tourism market was not stable and it directly affects people who have to travel by plane. He mentioned that the decreased prices would not harm Thailand’s tourism development strategy.

The following are the old and increased domestic ticket prices: one way ticket from Bangkok – Phuket increased from 2,575 B. to 3,770 B., one way ticket Bangkok – Chiang Mai increased from 2,185 B. to 2,925 B., one way ticket Bangkok – Chiang Rai increased from 2,840 B. to 3,655 B., one way ticket Bangkok – Hadyai increased from 2,885 B. to 4,250 B., and one way ticket from Bangkok – Samui increased from 2,950 B. to 4,870 B. while the Chiangmai-Phuket route rises from 4,535 to 7,455 baht.
