Mr. Somboon Jirayus, President of Phuket Tourist Association (PTA), stated there were 5.5 million tourists visiting Phuket in 2010. The average days stay was 4.26 days. Spending expenses averaged 4,900 Baht per day per person. Total revenue was 108,000 million Baht.
In 2011, 19 million tourists visited Phuket. It was a good year for Phuket until the flood in Bangkok. The pictures of flooded Don Mueang Airport and empty product shelves badly affected Phuket as there was no clear clarification from the countries media about the situation here in Phuket.
“However, Phuket’s tourism market will continue to grow due to the increasing number of Chinese, Russian, Korean, Australian, Indian, and Middle Eastern tourists. If there are no violent situations in Thailand, Phuket’s tourism market is sure to keep growing.”
