CB Richard Ellis’ 1st quarter 2012 Phuket Property Report has found that the number of tourist visiting Phuket is continuing to increase and also that there has been a change in the preferred choice of accommodation.
The 1st quarter of 2012 was a record first quarter for tourist arrivals, seeing 594,999 domestic and 730,667 international passenger arrivals. Despite global economic uncertainty, tourism continued to grow with the expansion coming from Australia, China and Russia..
The average occupancy rate saw an increase to 82.7% from 80.5% in the 4th quarter of 2011. Hotels in the luxury and first class groups saw the highest occupancy rate, with an average room rate of 22,835 baht (increase of 6.8% year on year) and 7,425 baht (increase of 5% year on year), respectively.
Phuket now a number of high-end accommodations, at present there are 13,171 rooms from 83 hotels and this number will see an increase of 5,471 more rooms from 30 hotels which are currently under construction and will be complete by 2014.
Mr. David C. the chairman of CB Richard Ellis Thailand commented “The amount of rooms available in this market will not be limited to the West coast beaches; they will be spread to other areas, including Sirae Island located on the east side of Phuket.”
