Phuket seeing needed changes to its public transport services

On September 12 2012 at Phuket City Hall, Vice Governor of Phuket – Mr.Jamroen Thipayapongtada, Chairman of the Bus and Taxi Committee & Phuket Provincial Police Deputy Commander – Colonel Sakchai Limcharoen held a meeting to discuss the wage rates, fares, regulations, practices, roles and dress regulations for Phuket’s public transportation services.

Mr.Chamroen said “Phuket Transport Office will be responsible for creating a wage rate for bus drivers and conductors and also setting the rate for bus and taxi fares, ensuring all are charged the same for their journeys and tourists are not exploited. These should be for finalized on or before September 17th 2012. The number of illegal taxis that have now applied for vehicle registrations is about 3594, with 1277 vehicles going through the investigation procedure. We hope that this will start to build both the tourist’s and local’s confidence in Phuket’s taxi services.”
