Phuket Safety Project to tackle drugs problem

On 30th July 2012 at Phuket City Hall Governor of Phuket Mr.Tri Akaradecha held the 7th 2012 Phuket Phuket Safety Committee meeting together with Dr.Sommai Prechasilp – Deputy Governor and relevant Phuket government agencies.

Mr.Tri said “The 2012 project of security and services to tourists is a government policy which will is planned will take from in 2012-2018 to complete. Phuket’s tourism industry is growing at a relatively high rate and this is bringing a great deal of money into the country. However, this industry is very sensitive and therefore we have to set a high standard of security for our tourists, in order to ensure they and property are safe, not exploited and are offered help at times of need. The plan will start at major attractions and the risk areas will be monitored. For the plan to work successfully, we need the cooperation of all sectors when implementing security measures and the plan will be rolled out to all areas of Phuket.

Another problem which is causing a safety situation issue is drugs and we will be asking all departments to concentrate on prevention and suppression of drug abuse. A number of drug consumers have come to our rehabilitation camp for treatment and in future all areas will be seen to be finding addicts and sending them for treatment. Schools also need to teach their students about the harm that drugs can do, in order to tackle the problem.
