JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa showed its sporting spirit as a community player, eagerly taking up the role of sponsor for the British International School, Phuket team that travelled to Bangkok in June 2012 to compete in the FOBISSEA Primary (Group A) Games 2012
British International School, Phuket was one of eight schools from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore who each sent a team of 36 young competitors aged between 8 and 11 years old, to the regional competition. The games are a flagship event of the Federation of British International Schools in South East Asia and East Asia (FOBISSEA) and are held annually for various age groups, hosted by each member school in turn. The recent June games took place at Shrewsbury International School in Bangkok from 15 to 17 June.
The 36 athletes from British International School, Phuket took part in swimming, track & field, T’Ball and football, achieving commendable success over the three days of competition. Among notable performances were those by Mia O’Leary and Jennifer Sydney who were highest point scorers for Year 4 and 5, Kayleen Procanik’s gold medal in the 800 m track event and quoits sling and Shayla Procanik’s silver medal in the 800 m. In football the Year 4 girls team won bronze, the Year 5 team won the event plate and the Year 6 team won silver.
