After the successful launch of the Angsana Youth Artist scholarship supporting local university students, yesterday, Angsana Laguna Phuket put on a fun display of cooking action in the classroom. During the Angsana Cooking Challenge at Cherngtalay Wittayakom Jutikong Anusorn School, Thai Sous Chef Wannee Kalasri and her team demonstrated a “hygiene-in-the-kitchen & healthy cooking” lesson.
Chef Kalasri paid a visit to the School, where she taught students of grades ten to eleven the basics of healthy Thai cooking, plus hints and tips on the importance of hygiene while preparing a meal. The demonstration involved making smart food choices and getting the students acquainted with local ingredients. After the show, the sixty students were divided into ten teams to create their own styles of mouth-watering healthy Thai salads. Panya Hatth, Director of Cherngtalay Wittayakom Jutikong Anusorn School, Teacher Prapasri Chitchamonog, and Chef Kalasri herself were the judges. The winning team received a cooking class certificate as well as a special cutlery set.
The Angsana Cooking Challenge was established to reinforce the resort’s commitment to supporting the Phuket community with a key initiative that is aligned with Banyan Tree’s Group Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) philosophy of Empowering People. “The Angsana Cooking Challenge project is leading students to see another option in Food & Beverage operation in hospitality industry. With the help of Chef Kalasri and the Angsana Laguna Phuket team, students learned about the importance of selecting nutritious and low-cost ingredients, and to prepare food in a way that provides the best nourishment following the Sufficiency Economy philosophy, advocated by His Majesty the King.” said Panyan Hatth.
“As part of our commitment to contribute to the community in which we operate, we are pleased to take an active and supportive part in the community. The cooking class project has been developed to embrace the magic of Thai cooking and offers young enthusiasts the chance to spend time in the kitchen with a five-star resort chef, to explore local fresh ingredients, and to understand the importance of hygiene.” said Jerry John, General Manager of Angsana Laguna Phuket.
