The story of what happened
The current art scene on Phuket is gaining momentum; on the forefront of this movement is Phuket based artist Romadon Suriyan. Progressive, avant-garde and emotional, Romadon takes art to new level, not just for Phuket, but for all of Thailand.
On 20 October 2012 in the much anticipated follow up to his appearance on Thailand’s Got Talent (the popular Thai television show) finalist Romadon Suriyan performed at Mom Tri’s VR Gallery in Live Art as it Happens. In this solo exhibition 5 new pieces were created.
The performance was an extension and conclusion of his appearance on Thailand’s Got Talent, where he stunned and amazed the judges and the nation with his dynamic and inspiring style and established himself as a national artist.
The theme addressed political issues and conflict separating the people of Thailand, and the hope of unity.
The performance at the VR gallery commenced with him being bound and breaking through the restraints. With drama, beauty and intensity Romadon covered the canvases using his entire body forgoing the use paint brushes and in some cases pouring entire buckets of paint on his body to exemplify the suffering created by the conflict.
The performance took place to live music and with the energy contributed from the large crowd. Besides being the first of its kind ever in Phuket, this was also a first for Romadon, as never before following a performance was there a final piece of work available to purchase.
The canvases began as one 10 meter piece and as each 2 meter length was completed it was separated and brought into the gallery to hang. Romadon hung the pieces while he himself was also dripping with paint.
Each piece measures 200 cm x 160 cm and can be purchased for 20,000 THB each.
The canvases can be mounted complimentarily upon request. Canvases will be on display at Mom Tri’s VR Gallery until November 27, 2012. x
