The Phuket International Academy Mind Centre welcomes world-renowned academic-turned-Buddhist monk Matthieu Ricard for his visionary “Train Your Mind, Change Your Brain” talk and photography exhibition.
The PIAMC will present Venerable Matthieu Ricard’s perceptive photography collections of spiritual masters, landscapes and the people of the Himalaya, whom he has been photographing for four decades, on November 13 from 17.30 onwards. Proceeds from the photographs will go to the humanitarian projects of Karuna-Shechen in Nepal.
Prior to the exhibition, starting at 14.00, Venerable Matthieu Ricard will present cutting edge research from leading researchers around the world on the benefits of contemplative practices, in the centre’s air-conditioned Teaching Hall.
“We are blessed to have Venerable Matthieu Ricard; a scientist, dedicated practitioner, gifted artist, prolific writer and a tireless social entrepreneur visiting our Mind Centre,” commented Dr. B. Alan Wallace, Chairman of PIAMC.
The French-born academic left his distinguished scientific career in 1972 to concentrate on Buddhist contemplative practice. He has since lived in India, Bhutan and Nepal with some of the greatest living teachers of Buddhism and since 1989, has served as French interpreter for His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
A prolific author and photographer, Venerable Matthieu Ricard has published revered titles including The Monk and the Philosopher; Journey to Enlightenment (The Spirit of Tibet); An Inner Journey; Buddhist Himalayas; Motionless Journey and Bhutan, Land of Peace. Now living at Nepal’s Shechen Monastery, he is a member of the Mind and Life Institute, and is engaged in research on the effect of mind training and meditation on the brain at several universities across both the USA and Europe.
As the venue for Venerable Matthieu Ricard’s exhibition and seminar, PIAMC’s position as Asia’s newest centre for meditation, wellness and balance is further reinforced. The PIAMC boasts contemporary facilities, including boutique hotel accommodation, and is located just 15 minutes from Phuket International Airport. Accommodation packages are available for people wishing to attend the event who live outside of Phuket, Thailand.
